successful - buying paper, a permanent marker, a wallet, and groceries - all in german!
until today it felt like dan and i were taking on berlin one english-speaking german at a time. we were getting by but we weren't really pushing ourselves too hard (see 14.01 entry). but today i managed to buy everything i needed armed with the little bit of german i know and a completely un-jordan-like confidence. walking down the street that out-of-body experience feeling crept up and i stopped to look around. i couldn't read one sign, and for the first time it didn't terrify me. i think this is a good sign.
