meine classe - my class

today i had my first german class with a group of people i don't know. it was a little overwhelming being so far behind but i managed to keep up. there was a lot of role play in this class. everyone speaks so well and so fast and they don't say um all the time! sigh. some day...

coincidentally i sat next to the only other american in the class. i guess we're drawn to people like ourselves even when you can't tell. the danish girls sat together and the russian women sat together. we have two canadian girls but they don't seem to like each other. one is from calgary and the other is from quebec. there must be something that i don't know about inter-province rivalries or something. if i find out i'll let you know.

our homework for tonight was to write a short paragraph listing what one might eat for each meal in our home countries. if there is someone looking at my searches for google translator they will be greatly amused. did you know that the terms "power lunch" and "rootbeer float" don't really translate? sushi is the same, as is martini. meatloaf translated to hackbraten. sounds gross in both languages... who knew?

so here is my paragraph for breakfast. have fun translating:
