krank - sick

dan's got the krank. he stayed home from work today. when i got home from class at 1pm he had just woken up from his 8am Nyquil® induced coma. as humans are known to do when sick, all dan wanted to do was veg. but having downloaded, and watched, absolutely everything of interest to us on itunes, we were faced with a decision. was dan sick enough and i bored enough to justify downloading - for free, mind you - the first episode of "The Real Housewives of Orange County"? sadly - yes.

now before you decide i have completely lost my marbles - a drama teacher who watches soap operas to learn german is one thing, but this? - i'll remind you that when sick/bored you have a limited checklist of expectations.

dan's checklist:
fancy women with implants - check
don't have to think - check
reminds me, however vaguely, of home - check

jordan's checklist:
free - check
distraction from boredom - check
makes me like myself more - check

it's not a good show. but you knew that already. but for those critics of reality TV who say, "how does this crap get made?" i urge you to consider the premise of the show: a cross-section of women from within the same gated community (desperate housewives - huge hit); focus on the frivilous "problems" of the filthy rich (the o.c. - huge hit); reality TV (cheap to make). it's practically a no-brainer. which is pretty much how it comes across - no thought put into it.

so, to sum up: it was a perfect way to pass the time. i will never watch it again.

dan's editorial: "dan will now light himself on fire."
