random update:

sorry! i forgot to let everyone know that i would be gone for four days. i hope you all have better things to do than check for blog updates repeatedly. moms, especially sorry to you. we weren't mamed in an accident or caught in a bear trap or anything your imaginations might have conjured up while i wasn't blogging.

we were in budapest last weekend. more budablogs to come.

i saw a really interesting movie in german last week. those of you with netflix should put it on your request list, though it will be a while before it's out on DVD. it's called "das leben der anderes" - the life of others. it's about a spy in east berlin who's job is to listen in on an east german artist the soviets think is suspicious. it gave me a really great sense of what it must have been like (in a really heightened situation) to live in east berlin in 1984 -1989. i bet it's even more interesting when you can understand what they're saying...
