rocky mountain high
john denver floated through my head as i headed out to western colorado to visit my parents. we had a great time hiking through shimmering trails up to a mica mine, seeing an opera and having dinner with their new friends.
we went to telluride for a day, where i lived for a summer in college. things have changed, a lot, but the more they change the more they stay the same. town park is still home to a fishing pond for kids. the gondola is still free. and the businesses that appeal to the locals are the ones that haven't changed hands.
but all of these things, though fun and memory provoking, are not the reasons i miss colorado. my parents are a reason, of course, but i really miss the air. i guess it's just thin enough up there to feel the sunshine on my shoulders and induce an oxygen-deprived euphoria that keeps me coming back.
