das gefällt mir - that is pleasing to me

today i decided to take part in two of my favorite european activities (along with having more sausage and beer in my new glutenful life). i hung out at a café having "kaffee und kuchen" - coffee and cake. yum. then i went next door to the flower shop and had a bouquet made for myself.

i like the idea that people here live their lives a little more publicly, which is surprising as that typically frightens me. in san jose it was not only weird but oddly paralyzing to imagine myself hanging out in a café, alone, not working or on a cell phone, and eating cake - in the middle of the day! correct me if i'm wrong, but most of us just don't do that in the US. at least i didn't. i think taking a little time to chill during the day should be built into our work schedules. i have the luxury of working it into my self-made work schedule so maybe i will do that when i get back... maybe without the cake part, i am pushing 30 (the sausage and beer stay).

i also like that all flowers are made, in front of you, into a bouquet so professional that not even i - among the pickiest of all picky floral consumers - have to take it apart and re-do it.
