der Rabatt - discount
today was an incredible day in berlin. the outside dining tables made their first appearance en masse, as did the people enjoying ein Pils vom Fass or ein Weißbier rot oder grün. the temperature gage in our apartment said 18.3 degrees (C) and there was still daylight at 7:30pm. these are the ingredients for a night out.
we went on a walk around the neighborhood and suddenly nothing felt as far away as it had before. we ended up at a sushi place near our house that is actually called "sushi 50%". we were intrigued. 50% of what? and this "happy hour" lasting from 5pm - 11pm. how does that work?
basically, it means that the sushi will be of medium quality in premade combinations with one price crossed out and another (not 50% less interestingly) written next to it. this "special," very permanently printed, price is available whenever the restaurant is open, conveniently, 5-11pm. this phenomenon is very popular in berlin with sushi restaurants, as i may have mentioned before, meaning that berliners never have to pay retail for sushi! or at least they won't feel like they are.
a beautiful night, a nice walk, and discounted sushi. what more can you ask for on a monday?
