overheard

i delivered some ears i made for mouse costumes to a 1st grade classroom yesterday:

teacher: ...which color ears are city mice and which are country mice?

me: the country are white and the city are black.

teacher: i hope i remember that.

me: it's easy. i equate black with urban.

oops - crap.

three hours later i caught her walking by and explained that i associated black clothing with urban style - i am not a terrible racist. she laughed and then said "i wondered..." how embarrassing.
