kaput - broken
hee hee, did i say i was going to blog more? i meant i was going to think about blogging more.
in fact, this non-blogging thing isn't entirely my fault. my laptop, which allows me to blog, watch TV and play solitaire all at the same time, while sitting on the couch, is kaput. even after a marathon trip to the apple store, where a "genius" wiped the whole thing and reinstalled my operating system, it only lived for a few days. and all those pictures and documents i was sure i had backed up? gone. (luckily, i managed to save our pictures from europe.)
5 years ago a similar event occurred causing us to loose all of our digital honeymoon pictures. at the time i was irate. we could never recreate those pictures without a lot of time and money. now that it's happened twice i am torn between feeling incredibly stupid for not having the backup disk in hand when i let the "genius" erase everything, and just annoyed with technology as a whole. it's human to lose things, and it's human to be angry about it. but what if it's not a human who loses your stuff?
even the giant desktop, which allows me to blog at this moment while steadily heating up the already stifling hot house, is having issues. we were forced to buy a new printer this week as well. all this right before the one teaching gig that necessitates me having constant access to a working computer and printer. joy.
i have another trip to the apple store lined up for this afternoon. i don't care what they do to it, just as long as it works until next friday. after this next job is over i can throw said kaput computer out the window and get to work saving for the next machine on which to depend. i've learned my lesson, though. the next computer will be accompanied by many blank CDs, thumb drives, and printouts of documents and pictures in anticipation of it's eventual defenestration.
