acton, baby!

"i have been out west to californ,
dum be dum be dum, dum be dum day,
and what did i do but miss my home,
oh oh new england."

- jonathan richman

day 2 - oh! and there's the big rock we used to climb on... well, i remember it being big.

day two started out with a road trip in our tiny orange rental with the bags banging around in the back seat because the trunk wouldn't open. luckily on the east coast you can go through 3 states in 3 hours and soon enough we were pulling into erickson's ice cream stand.

we tooled around acton for a little while (sorry we didn't call, sharon), driving into the, now back, entrance to the temple, past the "airport", and through rachel's old neighborhood, before getting to dan's old house. for someone who wasn't sure he needed to see his childhood home, dan certainly spent a long time driving 5mph back and forth in front of the house. i am still a little surprised that the cops didn't show up to question the intentions of the people in the beat up chevy aveo.

we headed into boston just in time to check into the hotel and buy some (more) red sox gear before going to the game. i love fenway. the green monster, the citgo sign, the fenway franks. the only thing i didn't love (so i thought) were the terrible, and hard, seats. last time we sat in the section that actually faces away from the action. we had numb butts and sore necks. this year we got smart. only our butts hurt - and our spirits, because the sox lost.

we had plenty of time to stretch our legs and revive our hopes for the team while we waited for literally every single person to leave the park. i don't know if dan just wanted to be alone with the field, or he had to stay for the organ to play "hey hey hey, goodbye" before leaving. whatever the reason, we closed the place and wandered slowly back to a T stop - where we reunited with every other fan and waited for 10 trains to pass before squeezing into the eleventh.

back at the hotel we found our sleep number on the freaky sleepnumber beds and settled into a really poor night's sleep on the glorified air mattresses.

stay with me as i fight the mac/safari/firefox/blogger battle to bring you day 3 - lobstah!
